Mum. Adventurer. Photographer.
My passion is capturing moments. Whether that’s a child laughing, a flower in full bloom, or a puppy delighted with his new toy, I love immortalising the instants that are important to you, or define the beauty of the world around us.
Since I had my two children, Joshua (4) and Fianna (2), keeping snapshots of those special seconds has become even more important to me – they grow up so fast and I know that one day I’ll want to be able to look back on the years and remember the fun and joy we had as they grew up. And that’s why I want to share my skills with other parents, be it human or pet, to provide you with those special moments captured in a photograph.
My style is relaxed, fun, and intimate, and I prefer working in natural light in the outdoors where you and your family can play and enjoy themselves and I can work unobtrusively to capture your own personal memories in bright and vivid colours.
In 2009 I published a book showcasing the hidden areas of Coventry and, while it’s no longer available, it’s a source of immense pride that people believed in my photography enough to think it worth publishing.
I live in the beautiful city of York with my long suffering husband, our two children and our 3 cats, all of whom have posed for me at some point with varying amounts of enthusiasm!
Other interests of mine are working with computers and databases (I actually enjoy pivot tables and complicated queries) and I’m a secret fan of shows like The Great British Bake Off and Four in a Bed in the background while I’m working on photographs. I also play Dungeons and Dragons with friends online and have Live Action Roleplaying as a hobby (improvised theatre in a field with no producer and no audience) which I also take photographs for, some of which are on this site.
My name is, officially since my marriage, Clare Rosemary Selley, however I have used the name Xarra online for the past 14 or so years so it has actually been used for longer than I’ve had my surname! I will answer to Xarra or Clare, and have more than once considered changing my name, or adding it as a middle name. It’s a unique name that I believe is different to all the many photographers out there who use their name as their brand – and you can proudly say that you have an original photograph by Xarra on your wall, which just sounds fancy!
